Thematic maps can be used to display information of both large and small areas. This is a thematic map of generalized soil patterns of South Africa in 2003. The different colors represent the patterns of the specific feature being exhibited. Thematic maps can show features of particular areas varying from social and economic features to agriculture and demographic features. This map shows a larger density of soil resources in lower South Africa.
